South Leschi Marina Construction Gets Underway

Construction on Seattle Parks and Recreation's South Leschi Marina Wave Attenuator and Facility Improvements project was scheduled to get underway in mid-September, with initial work focused on preparing the site and beginning utility work.

As of this writing, the contractor was scheduled to begin mobilizing the week of September 14. Early activity was expected to include bringing equipment to the site, installing fencing around the Seattle Parks parking lot, establishing tree protection and erosion-control measures, and beginning utility excavation.

Plans also called for several temporary changes around Lakeside Avenue. Two parking spaces were expected to be removed to provide room for construction trucks to turn, and parking signage adjusted to accommodate accessible parking and other changes. King County Metro was also expected to temporarily relocate the bus stop in front of BluWater Bistro to the end of the block.

The Seattle Parks parking lot was scheduled to close beginning September 18 and remain closed during construction activity.

For the week of September 21, crews were scheduled to continue excavation and utility work. Additional work during the early phases of construction was expected to include concrete sawcutting and demolition in the Parks lot, followed by shoring work to provide safe access for workers. Some of this work, particularly concrete cutting and demolition, was expected to generate construction noise.

Looking ahead, work is currently planned during daytime hours on weekdays, with no night work or weekend work anticipated. Parks notes that construction schedules may change as work progresses.

The larger project will replace the aging marina wave attenuator and make accessibility and other improvements to the facility. Construction is expected to continue for approximately three months.
