Fat’s Chicken and Waffles

We came here for a late breakfast/early lunch on 10/27 when we had a power outage in lower Leschi. I missed my coffee mostly, but ended up with a hearty veggie scramble breakfast as well. Onion, mushroom and spinach provide the veggie part and the result is delicious. Breakfast (fried) potatoes are served with the eggs. There are three bottles of hot sauce on each table but I asked for ketchup. We immigrants from Michigan need ketchup for French fries and fried potatoes (but not on cottage cheese; not sure where Richard Nixon got that habit.) The coffee was excellent; they serve Café Vita.

My better half ordered Chicken and Waffle, two words I had never thought to use in the same sentence. Basically, it’s a chunk of deep fried chicken breast served atop a tasty looking round waffle along with a small pitcher of syrup. He pronounced it delicious!

The place is very modern looking, but with attractive wood on lower half of walls and wooden tables and benches, which tends to add some warmth. Our server, Michelle, was welcoming and appropriately compassionate about our power outage. She lives nearby and is amazed at the changes now and soon to come. The projected density on the arterials is a big change from the single-family residences we have been used to. We talked a little about the developments at 23rd & Union and the coming Red Apple development. I would go back here, if only to talk to Michelle again!
