About

Want to get to know the candidates for the top jobs in Seattle and King County? At our Leschi October Community meeting on Tuesday October 14th, 7pm at Grace United Methodist Church, we will have Mayor Harrell and his challenger Katie Wilson, City Council President Sara Nelson and Dionne Foster, as well as Claudi Balducci who is running for King County Executive. Girmay Zahilay had a scheduling conflict. Doors open at 6:30pm and we will start promptly at 7pm.

Get ready for a different type of event. Instead of the usual ping-pong game of one-minute statements and rebuttals, Essex Porter will interview each candidate separately for 20 minutes on the topics you care about. With this format we will get beyond the campaign rhetoric. You can submit topics you would like to hear the candidates talking about via this form https://forms.gle/EuLQ4j9GTD26722r8 or email us at leschicouncil@gmail.com. The deadline for topics was Oct 5th, but we will continue to monitor for additional topics and do our best to work them in.

Veteran journalist and Leschi resident Essex J. Porter will moderate the forum. Mr. Porter was a fixture in the KIRO newsroom and in the Washington politics reporting scene and we feel fortunate we could lure him out of retirement for one evening. You won’t want to miss this event! This event is brought to you by the Leschi Community Council and co-sponsored by the Central Area Neighborhood District Council (CANDC).

There will not be a live Q&A with the audience and the event will not be recorded or streamed. We will be on a tight schedule to get through five candidate interviews and we do not have the funds to rent recording/streaming equipment. We are renting professional AV equipment to ensure that it's a good in-person experience.

We are a non-profit organization managed by volunteers and rely on support from the community. You can support the Leschi Community Council here by subscribing or making a one-time donation. Thank you for your support.
